Duties: Catering, barista and kitchen assistants in in-store cafes and food outlets usually prepare and serve food and drinks to set recipes and standards. Typical tasks include taking orders and payments, making hot drinks, preparing and plating food, clearing and cleaning tables, washing up, restocking, and completing food safety checks such as temperature and allergen records. Requirements: Helpful qualities are a friendly manner with customers, speed and teamwork. Irish food law requires food handlers to be supervised and instructed or trained in food hygiene to suit their work, so food safety training is usually provided. Food businesses must tell customers in writing about any of the 14 regulated allergens in the food they serve, so allergen awareness is important.
