Typical tasks include unloading deliveries, filling shelves, rotating stock by date, tidying and cleaning, and in 24-hour sites serving customers at the till. Shifts typically run overnight and can include weekends. Helpful qualities are working at a steady pace, attention to detail and being able to work on your own or in a small team. Under the Protection of Young Persons (Employment) Act 1996, 16- and 17-year-olds generally cannot work between 10pm and 6am, and under-16s cannot work between 8pm and 8am, so overnight roles are typically open to people aged 18 or over. Manual Handling training is common.
