Typical responsibilities include rosters and staffing, supervising and supporting staff, making sure each person's support plan is followed and reviewed, managing budgets and records, and working with families and other agencies. Residential centres for people with disabilities and for older people must be registered with HIQA. Each centre must have a person in charge who runs it day to day, while the registered provider is legally responsible for it. Some on-call cover is common. In disability centres, a person in charge appointed since November 2016 needs at least 3 years in a health or social care management or supervisory role and a health or social care management qualification. Other posts typically ask for a relevant qualification in social care, nursing or a related field plus management experience. Garda vetting is required by law for this work.
